Our services include remodeling your bathrooms, kitchen or your entire home. An updated kitchen or bathroom adds more value to your home than any other change you can make. Our clients are thrilled that we are able to transform their current home into their dream home.
Cardinal Construction has converted garages, spare bedrooms and outbuildings into home offices during the pandemic, when working at home became necessary.
During your project, you can expect daily communication; we are onsite every day from the start date to the completion. We arrive and protect your home with tarps, plastic, and floor protection. We recognize that construction in your home can be unsettling and we take every precaution to minimize the disruption while we are on site.
We do not hire temporary day labor; anyone working on your project will be a Cardinal employee. Most of our employees have been with us for many years.
If permits are required, we are experts at navigating the permit process with City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Scotts Valley and Capitola.
Residential Additions
We have built many additions for homes in Santa Cruz County, and nothing is more satisfying than adding more space to accommodate a growing family. Our beautiful additions help families stay in their current homes rather than move.
Adding a second story can sometimes double the size of your current home. The most popular additions are bathrooms, followed by adding space to enlarge a kitchen or living room, or by adding a bedroom. An extra bathroom can make all the difference for your family.
New Construction
We build new homes and garages, either after a teardown of the existing structure or on a new site. We can oversee all beginning aspects of your project including engineering, plans and permits. If your plans are already drawn, approved and permitted, we can start with a detailed, accurate estimate and build from that point to completion.
You’ll be provided with a schedule and daily updates to make sure your project is staying on track for completion. We are flexible during construction so that you can feel comfortable to make changes if needed.
Insurance Restoration
Cardinal Construction works with all the major insurance companies for fire, water, flood, storm and earthquake damage claims. We help you from the initial clean up through the repair and restoration of your property. We use the insurance company’s approved estimating program and pricing, and we are familiar with their paperwork requirements. We work with your insurance company to get you back into your home as soon as possible during a difficult time.
Commercial Tenant Improvement (TI)
Apple Computer hired Melanie as Project Manager for the design build of their first retail store at Valley Fair shopping center in San Jose, CA. She went on to proudly oversee the detailed aspects of building the first 27 Apple stores.
Lockheed chose Cardinal Construction to build several facilities to house millions of dollars in specialized equipment for research and development projects. The construction project included many customized features specially suited to the site, weather conditions and equipment usage. Cardinal Construction remains on Lockheed’s list of preferred contractors.
State Parks of California has put Cardinal Construction on a list of select contractors for projects in California State Parks. Locally, you can see the redwood decks, stairs and other improvements we built for the Ranger Stations at Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz, CA.
We have built several other commercial projects in Santa Cruz, including Nourish yoga and nutrition center at the corner of Walnut and Cedar Streets in downtown Santa Cruz.
We recognize the importance of completing your commercial project on time so that your business can open its doors. We are also aware of the disruption of building while your business is in operation, and we take measure to minimize the disruption, noise and dust to complete the work as soon as possible. We have been known to work during the night or on weekends so as not to disrupt normal business during regular business hours, a service our commercial clients appreciate.
203(k) Contractor
Buyers, Realtors, and Lenders can feel secure hiring Cardinal Construction as their 203(k) Contractor
The FHA 203(k) rehab loan give home owners an opportunity to purchase a home in need or repair or remodel. With the 203(k) loan, buyers can purchase and fix up a home without having to pay out of pocket. The loan covers construction costs.
There are two types of 203(k) loans, the Streamline and Standard. Cardinal understands and is able to perform both types of repairs and to complete the extensive packet for the lender and FHA. We are familiar with the process, the limits and we can help avoid delays.

We are available for initial inspections, and detailed and accurate estimates to help you decide if the purchase would be a sound investment. After purchase, we have repaired and rehabilitated houses from foundation to roof for resale.
